With Republicans increasingly interested in cryptocurrency, Democrats have also begun to actively draw attention to their position on the issue. In particular, Kamala Harris, the Vice President of the United States and the Democratic Party’s candidate in the upcoming elections, is seeking to attract support from the crypto community.
Tonight, the Crypto4Harris group, made up of Democratic supporters, is hosting an online meeting to discuss the future of cryptocurrency in the context of the Harris campaign. The invitation reads: “Join us to meet crypto industry leaders, political experts, and enthusiasts who support Harris’ campaign for President.”
Speakers include prominent figures from Congress and the crypto industry, such as Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, entrepreneur Mark Cuban, and influential crypto lobbyists such as Sheila Warren, CEO of the Crypto Council for Innovation.
However, not everyone in the crypto community is optimistic. For example, Custodia Bank CEO Caitlin Long, who has been critical of the Biden administration, expressed willingness to join the meeting, but with a caveat. She hopes that moderate Democrats will stop pressuring law-abiding crypto companies.
The event’s organizers hope to convince Harris to reconsider her approach to the crypto industry. Anthony Scaramucci, former communications director under President Trump, now supports Harris and criticizes his former party for not paying enough attention to the crypto industry.
Critics, however, point out the ambiguity of Harris’s position. They recall that two of her advisers, Brian Dees and Bharat Ramamurthy, were part of Biden’s National Economic Council and pursued policies against crypto companies.
At the same time, other experts note that Harris’s team also includes advisers with experience in cryptocurrency, such as David Plouffe and Gene Sperling. Some analysts, including popular podcaster Brian Krassenstein, believe that Harris will reconsider her approach and change the composition of her team after being elected.
Whether the Democratic Party will be able to win the support of the crypto community in the upcoming elections remains an open question. However, one thing is clear: cryptocurrencies are becoming an increasingly significant factor in American politics.
