He was invited by his 18-year-old compatriot Alfred Chernyshuk, who was staying at a local hotel. However, when Leybov entered the room, 21-year-old Armenian citizen Arman Grigoryan was already waiting for him. At first, the men were talking on the balcony, but the situation changed dramatically when Leybov went into the bathroom.

There, he was attacked by two masked assailants armed with a hammer and a knife. Threatening with injuries, they said that they would break Leybov's fingers if he did not transfer them 500,000 USDT. Fearing for his health and life, Leybov managed to negotiate with the extortionists, reducing the amount to 250,000 USDT.

Finding himself in a desperate situation, he transferred the money to the criminals, after which they tied him up and threatened to keep quiet about the incident. After that, the attackers fled the scene.

Leibov managed to free himself and immediately went to the airport

Phuket on a motorcycle, hoping to find the attackers there, but to no avail. He later contacted the police for help, providing them with information about the incident.

This case highlights the increased risk for cryptocurrency owners, especially for foreigners abroad. Recent events in Thailand confirm a worrying trend of attacks on crypto investors. In November, Thai police arrested six police officers for extorting 10 million USDT from a Vanuatu citizen. Rooch Network founder Haichao Zhu was also robbed in Bangkok while attending the Ethere V Devcon 2024 conference.
