Germany's largest tabloid newspaper Bild will make cuts, replacing journalists with artificial intelligence, to save €100 million

The German newspaper Bild will reduce some of the journalists, replacing them with artificial intelligence (AI). This is written by one of the largest regional German newspapers Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung. Editors, proofreaders, as well as employees of the printing industry may fall under the reductions.

According to the newspaper, the decision should help the media concern Axel Springer save € 100 million. The scale of the layoffs was not disclosed.

As part of the business reorganization, the number of regional editions of Bild will also be reduced: from 18 to 12. Starting from 2024, the media concern will first focus on the digital, and only then on the print version. Previously, the introduction of AI into the workflow was allowed in the British editions of the Daily Mirror and Daily Express. It is unclear whether foreign publications plan to rely on chatbots like ChatGPT or will develop corporate versions of neural networks.

Group-IB experts, meanwhile, are sounding the alarm over the growing use of the ChatGPT chatbot in the workplace. According to experts, over 100,000 ChatGPT accounts with a history of requests and responses have been leaked on the darknet. Attackers can later use corporate data leaked to the darknet for targeted attacks against companies and their employees, Group-IB emphasized.

Not all companies want to rely on existing AI technologies. For example, Apple has banned its employees from using ChatGPT in the workplace. The Korean giant Samsung has also imposed a ban on ChatGPT, but the company intends to replace it with its own chatbot. A similar decision was made by the American bank JPMorgan Chase.
