The famous founder of Twitter and the head of Block Jack Dorsey spoke about the launch of Bitchat, a messenger that works entirely on Bluetooth and does not require an Internet connection. The main goal of the project is to create an independent and secure platform for communication that will be resistant to censorship and communication failures.
As follows from the White Paper, Bitchat is designed as an anonymous messaging tool. Its architecture is based on intermediate data storage technology and interaction via Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE). This approach allows users to communicate directly within the reach of a Bluetooth signal, bypassing servers and traditional Internet channels.
Each device in the Bitchat network simultaneously acts as a receiver and transmitter of messages. This means that messages are sent between users through neighboring devices, forming a communication chain and expanding the range beyond a single Bluetooth connection.
To establish a connection, devices identify each other by a unique UUID within a radius of about 30 meters. Once detected, they establish a connection and create a secure chat. All messages are encrypted end-to-end and are stored only in the device's memory by default, which guarantees a high level of privacy.
In addition, Bitchat provides the ability to cache messages. If the recipient's device is temporarily unavailable, the sent text is saved and transmitted immediately after reconnecting to the network. This allows for continuous communication even when the connection is interrupted.
Interestingly, you don't need a phone number or email to use Bitchat. All communication is protected by multi-level encryption and confirmed by a digital signature. The project document emphasizes that this approach proves that it is possible to create a secure and private environment for correspondence without relying on central servers.
Jack Dorsey has long been interested in decentralization and Bitcoin. In 2023, he invested in the development of the OCEAN mining pool, which was created under the leadership of the famous Bitcoin Core developer Luke Dash. At that time, the project received funding of more than $6 million. In the spring, Tether announced that it would send its entire hashrate to OCEAN, which emphasizes the growing interest in independent infrastructure solutions.
At the end of last year, Block announced plans to increase investments in mining and the development of cryptocurrency wallets, focusing on these areas and reducing other business areas.
Thus, the launch of Bitchat becomes another step for Dorsey in promoting decentralized technologies and independent communication platforms.
