Crypto payment service Truther announced that residents of El Salvador will be able to use a new USDT card integrated with Visa starting January 29, 2026. The key feature of the product is that no pre-funding is required for payments—funds are debited directly from the user's non-custodial wallet. According to company founder Rochelo Lopez, transactions will be instantaneous, and the stablecoin amount will be automatically converted at the time of payment. For example, if a customer pays €30 at a hotel, the equivalent amount will be debited in USDT in real time.

The conversion fee is set at 2%. It is specifically emphasized that users in Brazil will not face the IOF fee on transactions. This is especially relevant given the discussions surrounding the possible introduction of a tax on international cryptocurrency payments in the country. Following the launch in El Salvador, the card will be available to all Truther clients, primarily targeting those who prefer to use stablecoins without converting to fiat or interacting with centralized platforms.

Truther's technical infrastructure already processes approximately $40 million in daily transaction volume thanks to the integration of USDT and other stablecoins through the PIX system in Brazil. The company intends to expand its product line: the current wallet runs on Polygon, but plans to migrate to Liquid in the future to improve privacy and transaction processing speed. El Salvador, which recognizes Bitcoin as an official means of payment, will be the first region where the new product will be tested on a large scale and then scaled across Latin America and beyond.

Along with the expansion of its payment product, Truther is also preparing for technological growth. Using the Swapix API, the company plans to enable instant conversions of crypto assets into fiat. Following the service's launch in Brazil, the next step will be a rollout in Argentina, followed by Mexico, Colombia, and Russia. These destinations were chosen due to its 24/7 settlement infrastructure and support for QR payments. In addition to USDT and Bitcoin, the wallet supports a stablecoin pegged to the Brazilian real. In 2025, a token representing the value of the Argentine peso will be released, as well as Tether Gold. Users will be able to pay via QR code and accept transfers without gas fees.

Truther is also working with traditional banks to integrate stablecoins into their ecosystems. According to Lopez, financial institutions' activity in the sector could lead to a tripling of transaction volumes within a year, marking a significant milestone in the development of crypto payments globally.
