Google Cloud and LayerZero Integration: Enhancing Cross-Chain Oracles and Interchain Transactions

LayerZero and Google Cloud have announced a partnership, wherein Google Cloud will become the new provider of cross-chain oracles for LayerZero. Colin Wu emphasized the importance of this integration, noting that applications developed on LayerZero will now have the ability to choose from various oracle options, including Chainlink, zkLightClient by Polyhedra, and sources managed by Polygon and Sequoia. Another significant aspect of this collaboration is the replacement of the oracles previously used by LayerZero with Google Cloud. Google Cloud will become the default configuration for many applications in the world of LayerZero's cross-chain solutions. Colin Wu also drew attention to the principles of lightweight and ultralight nodes technology employed by LayerZero. These mechanisms enable the division of intermediate trust channels into two parts using relays and oracles, thereby enhancing security while reducing costs. Lightweight nodes only store historical block headers, not transaction details, which reduces the amount of data that needs to be processed.

However, Colin Wu also noted that using cross-chain transactions comes with certain risks. Despite this, he emphasized that the advantages outweigh the risks. Thanks to LayerZero's technology, successful cross-chain transactions have been implemented across more than 30 different blockchains, including protocols like IBC in the Cosmos ecosystem and XCMP in Polkadot.
