In May 2024, New Zealand cryptocurrency exchange Easy Crypto conducted a survey to understand the attitude of local residents towards the current economic situation and cryptocurrencies. The survey covered 1,034 New Zealanders and found that adoption of digital assets is rapidly growing in the country.
According to a report by Easy Crypto, 14% of New Zealanders already own cryptocurrencies. This suggests that New Zealanders are beginning to recognize the potential of digital assets and are actively investing in them. Most respondents expressed interest in further investments in cryptocurrencies.
Comparison with traditional investments
Interestingly, only 16% of respondents plan to invest in real estate, while 58% prefer digital assets. This signals a significant shift in investment preferences among New Zealanders. Moreover, 40% of investors are convinced that cryptocurrencies can bring high returns, which makes them an attractive investment option.
Many respondents noted that cryptoassets can solve a number of problems inherent in traditional financial systems. These include high transaction fees and slow international transfer speeds. These advantages make cryptocurrencies attractive to many investors.
Obstacles to investing in cryptocurrencies
Despite the growing interest in digital assets, there are barriers to their adoption. The survey showed that 72% of respondents who have not yet invested in cryptocurrencies find the process difficult. Many people don’t know where to start and who to turn to for help. Half of those surveyed (50%) expressed the need for educational seminars on cryptocurrencies and the establishment of clear regulatory rules for cryptocurrency service providers.
Statement from the CEO of Easy Crypto
Easy Crypto CEO Janine Granger commented on the situation as follows:
"Cryptocurrencies are going mainstream. The SEC's approval of Bitcoin and Ethereum spot ETFs is proof of that. People used to ask if they should invest in cryptocurrencies, but now they are looking for places where they can invest in digital assets with at the lowest cost."
Easy Crypto's research highlights New Zealanders' significant interest in cryptocurrencies and willingness to invest in digital assets. Despite existing obstacles, such as a lack of information and a lack of clear regulatory rules, the majority of respondents see the potential for high-yield investments in cryptocurrencies and a solution to the problems of traditional financial systems.
