The ZKsync project team has announced a significant airdrop that will take place next week. Between 17 and 23 June 2024, users will be able to claim a portion of the ZK3.675 billion – 17.5% of the total supply of the asset.

Airdrop conditions

The airdrop provides for the distribution of tokens among 695,232 wallets that meet the established criteria. In total, about 67% of the token supply will be allocated to the community. You can request tokens using this link until January 3, 2025.

Of the total supply of tokens, 49.1% will be allocated to various initiatives within the ecosystem. 16.1% is provided for the project team, and 17.2% for investors. This distribution is aimed at stimulating further development and sustainability of the project.

Criteria system and snapshot

The compliance of wallets with the airdrop criteria was determined using a point system. Participants could earn points for completing various tasks, such as interacting with 10 smart contracts in the ZKsync Era or owning the NFT Libertas Omnibus. A snapshot on the ZKsync Era and ZKsync Lite networks was taken on March 24, 2024, which determined the distribution participants.

In a commentary for The Block, CEO of Matter Labs, the developer of ZKsync, Alex Glukhovsky emphasized that the team was guided by the interests of the community when distributing tokens:
“We strived to make the distribution of tokens as fair as possible and focused on the active participants of our project.”

Despite the team's efforts, the announcement of the airdrop drew criticism from some users. They stated that they did not qualify for the distribution, despite meeting all the criteria. This has sparked debate about the fairness and transparency of the selection process.

Creation of the ZK Nation community

Previously, the ZKsync team announced the creation of the ZK Nation community, the purpose of which is to manage the protocol. This community will play a key role in decision-making regarding the development and management of the project.

The ZKsync airdrop highlights the project team's commitment to strengthening the community and encouraging participation in the ecosystem. Despite the criticism, this step is an important step in the development of the project and its integration with users. The creation of the ZK Nation community also demonstrates a focus on decentralized governance and the involvement of active participants in the decision-making process.
