Latin America's largest financial institution, Itaú Unibanco, has expanded access to cryptocurrency trading on its investment platform Ion. Now all users can conduct transactions with BTC and ETH through the bank's application.
Decision-making
Guto Antunes, head of the digital division of the bank Itaú Digital Assets, told local media that the decision to expand cryptocurrency services was made after a thorough survey of customers who approved the launch of digital asset-related products. He emphasized that Itaú chose to ensure the security of clients’ crypto wallets independently, bypassing outsourcing.
Partnership with Liqi
Antunes also noted that although the bank has a partnership with Liqi, it is not related to the storage of cryptocurrencies. All digital asset custody solutions have been developed and implemented by Itaú with the interests and security of its clients in mind.
Itaú Unibanco first entered the crypto market in 2023, providing crypto services to only a limited number of clients.
