Capgemini has made a bold prediction about the future of artificial intelligence, predicting the emergence of autonomous AI agents capable of interaction and collaborative problem solving. Capgemini's Chief Innovation Officer, Pascal Briere, is confident that these technologies will become a reality in 2025.

Pascal Briere, in an interview with CNBC, spoke about the concept of “multi-agent AI,” which combines several AI solutions into one chain to perform specialized tasks. For example, an AI agent in the marketing department will be able to collaborate with an AI agent in the legal department to develop a new advertising campaign.

Definition of AI Agents

Capgemini has given a clear definition of the concept of “AI agent”. These agents are technologies capable of independent functioning, planning, reasoning, and achieving complex goals with little or limited human control. Essentially, AI agents work behind the scenes to perform tasks on behalf of users.

According to the Capgemini report “Leveraging the Value of Generative AI,” 82% of companies surveyed plan to integrate AI agents into their business processes in the next 1-2 years. More than 1,100 companies with annual revenues of $1 billion or more took part in the survey. 71% of these organizations expect AI agents to help automate routine processes.

The report also noted a significant increase in the number of companies integrating generative AI. Last year, only 6% of companies used these technologies, but in 2024 this figure has risen to 24%. Notably, 10% of companies with annual revenues between $1 billion and $5 billion are looking to implement generative AI, and among companies with revenues of $20 billion or more, this figure rises to 49%.

Differences between AI Agents and Traditional AI Systems

Briere emphasized that unlike conventional AI systems, which follow predefined instructions, AI agents are able to understand, interpret, adapt and act independently. This makes them valuable assistants who can perform tasks that previously required human intervention.

Interest in developing autonomous AI agents is not limited to Capgemini. Elon Musk announced that Tesla will begin producing humanoid robots for internal use in 2025. In addition, the startup OpenAI is on the threshold of a new era in the development of “superintelligent” AI.

With the advent of autonomous AI agents capable of interaction and joint problem solving, we are on the threshold of a new technological era. Capgemini's forecasts and the plans of large companies such as Tesla and OpenAI confirm that artificial intelligence will play an increasingly significant role in our daily lives and business processes.
