Sotheby's, the renowned fine art auction house, opened an auction on August 15 featuring non-fungible tokens (NFTs) from renowned artists such as Beeple and the CryptoPunks collection.

The event aims to showcase the synergy between art and technology. The auction will feature works aimed at both first-time buyers and seasoned collectors. Sotheby's plans to highlight how generative art combines creativity with technological capabilities.

Special attention will be given to female artists who have had a significant impact on the art scene, as well as emerging artists who are pushing boundaries with new technologies.

One of the central lots will be the NFT token CryptoPunk #491, part of the popular CryptoPunks collection. In 2021, Sotheby's already set a world record by selling another CryptoPunk for $11.8 million. Also on display will be a piece by Beeple, known for his NFT records: his work "Everydays: The First 5000 Days" sold for $69.3 million in 2021.

However, despite these successes, interest in NFTs has noticeably declined. In June 2024, sales fell by 45%, and July's figures were the lowest since November 2023.
