Cryptocurrency was ranked ninth among the least attractive hobbies for men, according to a survey conducted by the blog Date Psychology. The survey involved 814 people, 48% of whom were women.
The authors noted that, judging by past surveys, their sample was disproportionately women of “high social status,” highly educated, and predominantly white.
Female respondents were asked whether they found a list of 74 hobbies “attractive” or “unattractive.” Only 23.1% said cryptocurrency was an attractive hobby, while about a third found comics and cosplay attractive.
As a result, cryptocurrency ranked second among the least attractive so-called “nerd” hobbies for women, behind collecting Funko products, which produces bobblehead figurines inspired by pop culture and media.
When male respondents were asked what hobbies they thought women would be attracted to, 13.7% said women would be attracted to men who were into cryptocurrency.
However, most men said they thought playing an instrument would be the most attractive hobby for women, and they were right.
The results show that women consider reading to be the most attractive hobby for men (98.2%), followed by knowing or learning a foreign language (95.6%) and playing an instrument (95.4%).
The latest findings come after Pew Research surveyed 10,701 U.S. adults, including 5,936 women, and found that women are more skeptical than men about investing, trading, or using cryptocurrency.
Only 10% of women surveyed had ever traded, used, or invested in cryptocurrencies, compared to 25% of men surveyed.
