A chaotic cocktail where votes and virtual coins fly faster than you can say “blockchain government.”

In a recent blockchain election, the Eastern European micronation of Liberland elected crypto entrepreneur Justin Sun as the Speaker of its Congress. Liberland President Vit Jedlicka then appointed Sun as acting Prime Minister. Sun, a well-known cryptocurrency figure and founder of the Tron network, now holds two key positions in the self-proclaimed libertarian state.

Under the leadership of Liberland President Vit Jedlicka, several prominent figures have been elected to Congress. Among them are Indian tech entrepreneur Evan Luthra, journalist Gillian Godsil, Dorian Jacob Stern Vukotich (the first person to set foot in Liberland in 2023 and the tech lead of the blockchain team), Bitcoin advocate Navid Saberin, and lawyer Michael Ptacnik.

Justin Sun is a controversial figure

The Chinese entrepreneur has gained a notorious reputation for his brash personality and involvement in various controversies. The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has filed a lawsuit against Sun and his companies for alleged securities fraud, accusing them of manipulating the price of Tron tokens and conspiring to distribute billions of the cryptocurrency by artificially inflating trading volumes to attract investors.

However, Liberland President Vit Jedlicka argues that Sun’s blockchain expertise is in line with the nation’s mission to embrace decentralized technologies.

What is Liberland?

Liberland is a self-proclaimed libertarian micronation founded in 2015 by former Czech politician Vit Jedlička, who serves as its president. Situated on the western bank of the Danube between Croatia and Serbia, Liberland covers just 7 square kilometers—a tiny area compared to New York City, which is 112 times larger.
