The US cryptocurrency industry is playing an increasingly important role in funding political campaigns as the presidential election approaches. Chris Larsen, co-founder of Ripple, has made a significant donation of $1 million in XRP cryptocurrency to support Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris.

According to Federal Election Commission records, 1,754,815 XRP tokens were transferred to the Future Forward political committee on August 14. This fact highlights the crypto community's growing involvement in the political process and its desire to participate in election campaigns.

Notably, in September, Kamala Harris opened the possibility of accepting cryptocurrency donations through the Coinbase platform, using Future Forward as an intermediary. The political committee is raising funds for the Democratic candidate and has already raised over $200 million, according to data from OpenSecrets.

It is worth noting that both key candidates in the upcoming elections, Kamala Harris and Donald Trump, have expressed support for cryptocurrencies in their public speeches. However, despite this, the cryptocurrency topic has not yet taken center stage in their debates. Harris has promised to promote the development of the cryptocurrency industry, while Trump calls himself the “crypto president” and has announced his plans to turn the United States into a global hub for cryptocurrencies. However, the details of future regulation of the industry remain unclear, creating uncertainty for market participants ahead of the elections.
