Phantom, the leading wallet for Solana users, has experienced temporary issues that are causing problems for users trying to claim GRASS tokens in a major airdrop. The outage has been ongoing for over an hour, causing many users to see incorrect balances in their accounts, raising concerns in the Solana community.
Phantom has issued a statement reassuring users that while balances are showing incorrectly, funds are safe and that access to the mobile app and browser extension is maintained.
Largest GRASS Airdrop and Phantom Crashes
The wallet status page has confirmed a “major issue” that is causing users to see incorrect balances. However, the company assured that the mobile app and browser extension are working and “your funds are safe.”
The GRASS token airdrop, one of the largest community events in Solana, is giving away 10% of the total token supply to eligible users. The Solana-powered GRASS platform incentivizes users to share their unused internet bandwidth, and the current airdrop has become the largest engagement-driven event on Solana.
GRASS tokens have already been listed on major cryptocurrency exchanges such as Bybit, Bitget, KuCoin, and Crypto.com, generating high interest from users looking to claim and redeem tokens and increasing the load on Phantom.
According to SolanaFloor, the current GRASS token airdrop is the largest in Solana history, attracting nearly 2 million users looking to redeem tokens.
To ease user concerns, Phantom reached out to users via the X social platform (formerly Twitter), advising them to ignore “modeling errors” and use decentralized applications (dApps) to complete urgent transactions.
The company thanked users for their patience and said that it was working on a solution, but did not disclose the specific cause of the issue.
Solana Network Remains Resilient Despite Phantom Outages
Despite the Phantom outages, the Solana network remains stable, confirming that the issue is solely related to the Phantom wallet and not the underlying Solana infrastructure.
A recent report from SolanaFloor noted that the current outage only affected Phantom functionality and did not affect the core components of the Solana network.
This incident is not the first time Phantom has experienced outages this year. On February 3, the wallet reported “delays in updating balances,” and on August 15, a temporary error affected the display of balances on users’ accounts. Shortly after, the Phantom website also reported short-term issues that were quickly fixed.
Despite the wallet issues, the Solana network has been very active, having surpassed Ethereum in daily network fee collections. As of October 28, DefiLlama reported that Solana’s network fees had reached $2.54 million, surpassing Ethereum’s $2.07 million.
This increase in fees coincided with an increase in activity on Solana’s leading decentralized exchange, Raydium, which has collected $3.41 million in fees in the last 24 hours.
