On October 28, Apple officially unveiled its new Apple Intelligence artificial intelligence platform for iPhone, iPad, and Mac users. However, early reviews of the new features have been muted, with many believing that the expected AI breakthrough has yet to arrive.

The key features included in the first version of Apple Intelligence are available with the iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, and macOS Sequoia 15.1 update. A key tool called Writing Tools allows users to edit text, correct errors, and shorten text in Mail, Messages, Notes, Pages, and third-party apps. Siri, in turn, has become more “natural” in communication, which should increase the level of user interaction.

In addition, with the help of Apple Intelligence, users were able to integrate ChatGPT into Writing Tools and Siri. This allows you to interact with images and documents without switching between applications, which, according to Apple, should simplify and speed up work.

The innovative update also affected the Photos application, where the “search by description” function appeared. Now you can describe the desired image, and the system will automatically find it among many other photos.

However, some users who got acquainted with the new capabilities of Apple Intelligence were not delighted. Journalist Max Eddy from The New York Times, who received access to the preliminary version, noted: “It seems that the promised AI-driven future is still far away.” Julian Chokkattu, a senior editor at WIRED, also assessed the innovations skeptically, noting that after a month with Apple Intelligence, his daily life has not changed much.

Accessing Apple Intelligence itself is not as simple as it seems: US users need a compatible device and updated software, after which they can join a queue for access. For other countries, the situation is more complicated: to use the new features, you need to change the region and language of the system to "US" and "English (US)".

On the X platform, users are actively discussing the launch. One user nicknamed Mikey called it "the worst launch in the history of Apple", while another suggested waiting until the product is fully ready before opening it to all users.

Apple Intelligence was expected to be released in September, but the company delayed the release, eventually unveiling it in October.

Apple also announced an additional visual intelligence feature, expected in December, with which users will be able to instantly get information about objects and places - for example, translate text from another language or find out information about a restaurant located in front of them.

Among the upcoming features, the company also mentioned "priority notifications" that will be adapted to the user's personal preferences.

Additionally, to enhance privacy, Apple has given users the option to opt-in to ChatGPT's new Writing Tools and Siri features, or opt-out.
