On the anniversary of the Bitcoin white paper written by its creator Satoshi Nakamoto, Trump addressed American cryptocurrency supporters, while also touching on his political rival Kamala Harris. The Republican candidate expressed his intention to end the "war on the crypto industry" and support the development of Bitcoin in the US, and also recalled his promise to pardon Silk Road creator Ross Ulbricht, who was sentenced to life in prison.

Just days before the general election in the US on November 5, Trump has stepped up his rhetoric in support of Bitcoin. He assured that if he wins, he will stop government sales of Bitcoin and dismiss the head of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Gary Gensler. While Harris, a Democrat, has backed the development of new technologies like artificial intelligence and promised to protect the interests of digital asset investors.

Ahead of the election, Bitcoin adoption and value continue to rise. Cryptocurrency backers believe that Bitcoin will thrive regardless of the election outcome. Sixteen years after the white paper, Bitcoin remains one of the best-performing assets of the last decade, up 192% year-to-date, while the S&P 500 is up just 36%.

Corporate investors like Michael Saylor’s MicroStrategy are rushing to add capital to Bitcoin holdings. History has also been made on Wall Street, with spot Bitcoin ETFs becoming a reality and BlackRock’s fund breaking growth records, attracting investors who have poured over $72 billion into Bitcoin-related products.
