This funding will help local authorities provide the necessary material support to victims, eliminate the consequences of the disaster, and begin to restore infrastructure.
Javier García de la Torre, CEO of Binance Spain, emphasized that the exchange is committed to using digital assets to help in crisis situations. Thanks to this donation, flood victims will be able to receive timely support.
Fernando Pérez-Ordoyo, Head of International Relations at the Spanish Red Cross, expressed gratitude to Binance for such a significant contribution, which will help thousands of people in need. In turn, Binance's country manager noted that the fund is aimed at supporting communities such as Valencia and is designed to help people in difficult situations.
Last week was particularly tragic for Valencia, where the rainfall in one day reached the annual average. At least 217 people died as a result of the flooding, and rescue services are still searching for missing people, including in underground parking lots. Flooding also affected Barcelona, with El Prat Airport, one of the largest in Spain, partially underwater, leading to the cancellation and delay of over 80 flights and the temporary suspension of train services. Catalonia has declared a red alert due to heavy rains.
This is not the first time Binance has supported natural disasters. Last year, after a devastating earthquake in Turkey, the exchange provided Turkish clients with $100 worth of BNB coins each, reaffirming its commitment to helping those affected by natural disasters around the world.
