The administration of the head of Dagestan reported that the activities of mining farms cause a shortage of electricity, which worsens the quality of electricity supply for local residents. In this regard, Sergei Melikov signed an appeal to the federal government with a request to take into account the specifics of the region when making decisions to ban mining.
The republic has seen a significant increase in electricity consumption, and the wear and tear of networks exceeds the national average. This leads to frequent failures in the operation of the infrastructure. According to Dagenergo, which is part of Rosseti North Caucasus, dozens of cases of electricity theft by mining farms have been recorded.
The Government Commission for the Development of Electric Power Industry has proposed a list of regions where a ban on cryptocurrency mining may be introduced from December 1. This list includes subjects of the North Caucasus, including Dagestan.
