In his opinion, the company made a serious mistake by abandoning the balance between transparency and security, and then giving preference to commercial interests.

Buterin recalled how OpenAI CEO Sam Altman gained control of the company by winning a power struggle with the board of directors. The transition of the organization from a non-profit to a commercial one significantly weakened the role of the board of directors, leaving it with only advisory functions. Vitalik quoted Benjamin Franklin, saying that "if you sacrifice freedom for security, you lose both," emphasizing that OpenAI's actions go against this principle.

Vitalik also suggested considering the possibility of combining blockchain technologies with decentralized artificial intelligence or developing new alternative solutions in the field of AI. However, he expressed concern that the current popularity of AI could lead to a significant outflow of specialists from the crypto industry. This, according to him, will create serious problems for the development of the industry, since less talented developers will not be able to create innovative financial products. As a result, the cryptocurrency industry risks turning into a monotonous space, where the main focus will be on the release of new tokens and exchanges. Despite the problems, Buterin continues to set ambitious goals for the development of Ethereum. He said that the network should achieve a throughput of 100,000 transactions per second, while effectively interacting with second-layer solutions.
