This week, Ethereum developer Max Reznick announced that he was joining Solana. Leaving his role at Consensys, he said he sees much more potential and opportunity in Solana.

"I'm disappointed in Ethereum's inability to adapt to new challenges," Reznick told CoinDesk. He emphasized that the network's cumbersome and slow decision-making process is holding back progress.

Reznick believes that the main discussions about improving the network are often not publicly held, but rather in private messages from Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin. This is creating a slowdown at a time when Ethereum is facing serious competition for the first time.

Ethereum has long been known for its complex structure, with developers following Buterin’s annual roadmaps. However, many key changes are still in the works and may not be implemented for several years.

Resnick criticizes the culture of “stagnation” in the Ethereum ecosystem, which prevents quick decisions from being made. In his words, “if Ethereum wants to compete, it will have to rethink its decision-making process.”

Resnick’s move to Solana is part of a larger trend. Solana attracts developers with its speed and low fees. At Anza, a spin-off of Solana Labs, Resnick intends to focus on developing technical documentation and improving fee and consensus mechanisms.

Solana also gained ground when the team behind the popular NFT collection Pudgy Penguins decided to issue a token on the network rather than Ethereum. The move has sparked debate in the crypto community, where Solana is seen as a more retail-friendly platform.

Some Ethereum developers, like researcher Dankar Feist, believe that internal criticism is necessary to improve the ecosystem. But Resnick and other frustrated developers believe that without change, Ethereum could lose its leadership position.

Meanwhile, Ethereum researcher Justin Drake remains optimistic, saying that Solana is not paying enough attention to the long-term health of its network. However, key developer departures and decisions by major projects like Pudgy Penguins signal the need for change.

The developer departures and Solana projects highlight the seriousness of the challenges facing Ethereum. To maintain its leadership, Ethereum will need to rethink its internal processes and strengthen its competitive advantages.
