The Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM)-compatible Monad project has announced the creation of an independent organization, the Monad Foundation. The foundation will play a key role in supporting the growth and decentralization of the Monad protocol, as well as overseeing strategic initiatives to expand the ecosystem.
The foundation’s primary focus includes developing validator-led governance, supporting community-initiated improvement proposals, and providing resources such as technical documentation for developers. Additionally, the foundation will focus on ecosystem development, marketing, and consulting support to drive adoption of the Monad blockchain.
The foundation’s creation has fueled speculation about the possible imminent launch of the project’s own token, which has already become the subject of market speculation.
Validators play an important role in decentralized blockchains, ensuring their security by confirming and recording transactions. Network governance processes often rely on validators to make decisions about whether to implement updates or change the rules. The Monad Foundation aims to make these processes more transparent and community-focused.
The foundation will be led by Keone Hong and Eunice Giartha. Several key Monad Labs staff members, including business development, community, marketing, and developer support, will join the Monad Foundation.
Meanwhile, Monad Labs will focus on software development and research for the Monad blockchain. As part of the reorganization, the company will be renamed Category Labs, and James Hunsaker will become its CEO, according to an official statement.
The division of responsibilities between the independent foundation and Category Labs reflects modern practice in the blockchain industry. This approach balances technical development with independent community governance, strengthening decentralization.
Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) compatibility allows developers to use familiar tools to build applications on the Monad blockchain. This makes the network more accessible to a wider developer audience. With the launch of the fund, Monad aims to accelerate innovation and scale its ecosystem.
