The authorities of the South Korean city of Jeju are preparing to launch a project that will offer tourists digital cards based on NFT technology. These cards will give visitors to the island access to various attractions and services. The project, according to local media, is aimed at attracting the attention of young travelers, especially representatives of the millennial and Gen Z generations, and is scheduled to launch in mid-2025.

The digital cards will be available to Korean tourists who become residents of the project. Those who receive such cards will be able to enjoy various benefits, including discounts and exclusive offers from local institutions. Payments are expected to be made in the national currency, and the project will serve as an incentive for more repeat visits to the island.

The local government sees the launch of NFT cards as an opportunity to not only increase interest in Jeju among tourists but also stimulate economic growth. Particular attention is paid to the implementation of blockchain technology and NFTs in various fields, including museums, restaurants, and the fishing industry. These measures are aimed at using digital innovations to improve the efficiency and popularization of the tourism industry.

The idea of using NFT cards for tourists was discussed at several meetings organized by the city government in March 2024. During these discussions, various aspects of the application of blockchain solutions were discussed, as well as the possibilities of introducing NFTs into various economic sectors. Jeju hopes that such an initiative will not only increase the attractiveness of the island for tourists but also serve as a catalyst for the economic revival of the region, especially in the context of post-pandemic recovery.
