Ripple and MoonPay have provided financial support to Los Angeles firefighters by sending $50,000 in Ripple USD (RLUSD) stablecoins. The funds will help fight the fires that have engulfed several major areas, including Pasadena and Calabasas. Both companies expressed their gratitude to the heroic firefighters who are risking their lives to save lives and property.
The California wildfires have spread at incredible speed due to severe drought and gusty winds. Entire neighborhoods have been consumed by the flames, forcing more than 200,000 residents to evacuate. Tragically, 16 people were unable to escape and died. For those who survived, the loss was devastating.
One of the victims, a 70-year-old woman, survived the fire, but lost not only her home, but also her cryptocurrency savings. Her house burned down along with an important document that contained the private key to her bitcoin crypto wallet. Unfortunately, she did not remember the access details to her wallet and lost access to her savings.
