On January 14, 2025, Sony unveiled the Soneium mainnet, building on the success of the Soneium Minato testnet, which attracted over 15 million wallets and 50 million transactions in 2024. The network provides creators with the ability to engage with their audiences in a more intimate way.
Sony announced S.BLOX, a platform that simplifies cryptocurrency trading processes, and an NFT-powered Fan Marketing platform, which will launch in early 2025.
S.BLOX offers users a convenient way to acquire crypto assets for use in Web3 applications. As part of the launch, new users are offered Bitcoin bonuses and an NFT campaign with Ghost in the Shell has been announced.
The Fan Marketing NFT platform, scheduled to launch in February 2025, streamlines the process of issuing NFTs and engaging with fans. It includes web wallets with social login and provides creators with tools to organize NFT-based projects.
Developers and creators who have been working on the testnet can now migrate their applications to the mainnet. This opens up new possibilities, such as hosting fan events and integrating cryptocurrency payments in applications.
Soneium operates as a layer 2 solution on Ethereum, eliminating the slow processing and high fees associated with the layer 1 network. Using the Optimism Foundation’s technology stack, the network provides scalability, compatibility with the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM), and developer convenience.
Additionally, in 2024, Sony Block Solutions Labs partnered with Startale Group to develop the Web3 infrastructure, laying the foundation for the launch of the Soneium mainnet.
