Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim held an important meeting with the founder of the largest crypto exchange Binance Changpeng Zhao and representatives of the Abu Dhabi authorities. The main topic of discussion was the possibility of integrating cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology into the country's economy.
Anwar Ibrahim said that the dialogue touched on topics such as digital transformation, the development of data centers and the use of artificial intelligence. According to him, last year he instructed the treasury, security service and the central bank of Malaysia to study the potential of the cryptocurrency sector.
He emphasized that regulation is an important tool for protecting the interests of citizens and preventing data leaks. At the same time, the government intends to take advantage of international experience, in particular the achievements of such participants as Binance and the United Arab Emirates, so as not to start the process from scratch.
Changpeng Zhao, commenting on the meeting, confirmed that it was taking place and added that the discussions covered crypto industry regulation, policy and possible risks. They also looked at options for cross-industry and international cooperation that could strengthen Malaysia's position in the digital space.
