Telegram and the TON Foundation announced an agreement on January 21 that requires all in-messenger Web3 apps to run exclusively on The Open Network (known as TON). This measure, according to Decrypt, is aimed at increasing security and improving the scalability of the ecosystem.
TON Foundation President Manuel Stotz explained that there will be restrictions for wallets that support third-party networks, with the exception of cross-chain solutions. According to him, the introduction of TON as an exclusive network is a strategic step to strengthen its position among global blockchains.
The TON Foundation will provide grants of up to $50,000 for projects that migrate to its network within 30 days. However, this offer does not apply to those who have already received financial support from the fund.
Telegram has already introduced its digital currency Telegram Stars in June 2024 to pay for services within the ecosystem. In November of the same year, the messenger offered a major update to its mini-apps.
It also became known about TON's plans to expand its activities in the United States.
