The businessman was kidnapped at dawn on January 21 from his home in the Cher department of France. The criminals took him to an unknown address, where they held him under threat, demanding a large sum of cryptocurrency.
The rescue operation, carried out by the GIGN anti-terrorism unit, ended on the evening of January 22. Balland was released and taken to hospital for necessary medical care.
An investigation is currently underway to find and arrest the kidnappers. They face the maximum possible sentence, including life imprisonment.
David Balland co-founded Ledger in 2014. According to his LinkedIn profile, he served as the director of the company's plant in Vierzon from 2019 to 2021.
