According to his data, the hack occurred on December 12, 2024. The hacker made three transactions to withdraw funds, then used cross-chain bridges to convert the coins to Ethereum and distributed them via Tornado Cash, making it difficult to track the stolen assets.

After discovering the theft, the victim moved his .sui domains to a new, secure address to avoid further risks.

However, ZachXBT noted that limitations in blockchain analysis tools and Sui explorers make it much more difficult to track the stolen funds, creating favorable conditions for criminals.

Recall that before the launch of the Sui mainnet in May 2023, CertiK auditors identified a critical vulnerability in the blockchain. The error, dubbed HamsterWheel, could allow attackers to block nodes and prevent new transactions from being processed.

The developers quickly fixed the problem and paid a reward of $500,000.
