Last weekend, information appeared on social networks that Pump.fun was allegedly preparing to launch its own token. However, one of the platform's founders, Alon Cohen, officially denied this information, emphasizing that users should only be guided by the team's statements.

Cohen explained that at this stage, Pump.fun is focusing on improving the product and interacting with users, but is not considering issuing a token. "I see rumors about a possible Pump.fun token - they are not true. We publish all important news only on official channels," he wrote on X (former Twitter).

Earlier, rumors were spread on social networks that the platform was going to hold a Danish auction together with large centralized exchanges (CEX). However, specific details were not disclosed. Some users began discussing a possible airdrop and the parameters of the proposed token, including its emission of 420 million coins, half of which were supposed to go into free circulation. However, this information turned out to be false.

While Pump.fun had previously hinted at the possible launch of its own token, no official statements about the timing or conditions were released. The developers only confirmed that early users can expect certain rewards in the future.

Since its launch in January 2024, Pump.fun has become a key player in the memecoin market. Users of the platform have created over 7 million tokens, which is almost half of the trading volume on decentralized exchanges (DEX) on Solana. According to Dune, the platform's net income from fees has already exceeded $500 million.

However, along with the growing popularity, the platform also faced difficulties. One of the controversial innovations was the streaming function, which allowed users to promote their tokens. However, some began to abuse this feature by streaming content containing scenes of violence and self-harm. As a result, the Pump.fun team was forced to temporarily disable the feature.

The platform has also faced pressure from regulators. In December 2024, the UK Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) issued a warning against Pump.fun, which resulted in access being restricted for UK users. In January 2025, a class action lawsuit was filed against the company, accusing it of selling unregistered securities.

Alon Cohen explained why the debate around Pump.fun continues. According to him, the main reason is the accessibility of the platform for everyone. “Pump.fun is a game changer by allowing anyone to launch their own token, something that was previously only available to a select few,” he said.

However, the lack of strict regulation and potential abuses raise concerns among both users and authorities. Despite this, Pump.fun continues to attract attention as one of the most popular platforms for launching memecoins.
