James Howells from Newport has been trying to find a hard drive that accidentally ended up in a landfill for almost 12 years. During this time, the value of his BTC has reached approximately $750 million. Despite the refusal of local authorities to help him in his search, he continues to look for an opportunity to get his savings back.
Howells made requests to Newport Council to carry out an excavation, proposed various search plans, including sorting the garbage and dividing the found BTC, but was met with an adamant position by the authorities. They argued that excavation would entail significant legal, economic and environmental risks.
The court did not uphold Howells' claim, noting that his demands for the excavation of the drive or compensation in the amount of $613 million did not have a "reasonable basis". He is now considering the idea of buying a landfill to conduct his own search.
