In recent days, the BNB Chain network has seen a significant increase in fees caused by active trading of meme tokens. On February 5, the average transaction cost on the network was $0.057, but over the next nine days, the figure increased sevenfold, reaching $0.402 - the highest level since March 2024.

Amid a sharp increase in load, BNB Chain developers implemented an update on February 15 that improved the performance of the blockchain during periods of high activity. Now, validators with high performance have the greatest chance of confirming transactions, which has reduced the load on the network. As a result, by February 17, the average fee decreased by 35% to $0.263.

One of the reasons for the jump in transaction fees was the meme token CZ’S Dog (BROCCOLI), created in honor of the dog of former Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao. After entering decentralized exchanges, the asset’s value quickly doubled, but then a correction began, and its price fell by 40% over the past 24 hours. Despite this, one trader managed to make a significant profit: he invested only 1 BNB (about $660) and earned $7 million trading BROCCOLI.
