On March 2, armed intruders entered the home of Caitlin Siragusa, known as Amouranth, and demanded access to her cryptocurrency accounts.
The attack may have been prompted by a post made by the model in November 2024. At that time, she posted a screenshot from her Coinbase account, which displayed 211 BTC (the equivalent of over $20 million at the time) and 22.9 ETH (~$79,450).
On March 3, Amouranth posted a video, allegedly captured by a surveillance camera. The footage shows unknown individuals following her through the house. A few seconds later, three shots are heard, after which the robbers disappear. The model reported that she wounded one of the attackers.
The incident may be related to the rise of attacks known as “crypto wrench” — crimes in which digital asset owners are forced to hand over funds under threat of physical violence.
A Cointelegraph analyst under the pseudonym Dr. Anon noted that such attacks are often organized by professional criminal groups. To reduce the risks, he recommends keeping a “bait” wallet with a small amount of funds.
Cryptocurrency-related crimes have become more frequent recently. For example, in July 2024, a foreign citizen was killed in Kyiv for his digital assets worth more than $170,000. And on January 21, 2025, unknown individuals kidnapped Ledger co-founder David Balland and his wife, demanding a ransom of €10 million in cryptocurrency for their release.
