The blocking is related to sanctions: Garantex was blacklisted by the US in 2022, and in 2024, the authorities began an investigation into transactions worth $20 billion. In response, the exchange suspended operations, warning that Russian USDT holders could also face risks.
Tether has long cooperated with regulators and freezes assets associated with illegal activities. Lawyers warn that users working with sanctioned wallets may lose access to their USDT. For long-term storage of assets, it is recommended to consider decentralized cryptocurrencies.
