On March 23, Elon Musk posted a message on the X social network that his character in the game Path of Exile (POE) occupies the third position in the overall ranking. In the comments, he also clarified that the current game character is called Random9, while the previous one, BeLessDumb, died in the game. This seemingly harmless post led to a sudden surge of activity in the market.

Almost immediately after the publication, a token called Elon's POE account (Random9) appeared on the Ethereum network. In a short period, it rose in price from $0.000002117 to $0.01594 - an increase of more than 750,000%. However, the euphoria did not last long: within 30 minutes, the asset's value was almost zero, and trading was stopped, according to data from the dexscreener platform.

Although the token passed most of the basic checks for fraudulent signs, GoPlus analysts still classified it as a HoneyPot - so-called "bait". Such projects look attractive to investors, but are created solely for the purpose of deception: attackers lure users and withdraw their funds or confidential information.

Additional investigations by the crypto community revealed suspicious activity. It turned out that six days before the start of the project, dozens of wallets were created. These wallets received funding from the Bybit and MEXC exchanges and began to buy up Random9 en masse. Moreover, the amounts for which purchases were made were almost identical, and the transaction history was uniform. All this points to a pre-planned scheme.

Some of these addresses received significant profits. For example, one of the first buyers bought $41 worth of tokens and sold most of them for $6,700 a few minutes later.

Such cases have happened before. In January, tokens named after another Musk character, FatalismFTW, also showed a sharp rise and subsequent fall. Moreover, such tokens appeared both on the Ethereum network and on Solana.

Musk has previously used other game names, including Percy Verence and Kekius Maximus. The latter had a particularly noticeable effect - the KEKIUS token grew by 3000%, and its capitalization temporarily exceeded $500 million. Later, when the name was changed to Percy Verence, the corresponding token rose in price by 50%.

Such cases highlight how the influence of famous personalities can cause short-term but large-scale fluctuations in the crypto market.
