The move makes Gemini the latest crypto company to open a regional office in Miami. For example, Ripple is also headquartered in Wynwood, not far from Gemini’s new office, while BTC mining company MARA Holdings is headquartered in Fort Lauderdale. Notably, Florida residents are not subject to income tax, making the state an attractive location for business.

The decision to move to Florida comes amid a New York federal court ruling that granted Gemini Global Capital a 60-day stay in its case against the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). The SEC had previously accused the platform of selling unregistered securities through its Gemini Earn lending program.

In February, co-founder Cameron Winklevoss noted that the regulator had concluded a separate investigation into Gemini. In January, Gemini agreed to pay a $5 million fine imposed by the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC). The penalty stems from allegations that it made false or misleading statements in an application to approve a bitcoin futures product. Gemini is also considering an initial public offering (IPO) this year. The company is actively consulting with experts to discuss the details of a possible listing.
