The list includes two deposit addresses registered on major cryptocurrency platforms and six addresses belonging to private users. According to available data, about $1 billion passed through these wallets, with a significant portion of the funds going to finance Houthi operations in Yemen and the Red Sea region.

Slava Demchuk, an anti-money laundering specialist in the cryptocurrency sector and a consultant to the UN Office on Drugs and Crime, noted that sanctions against wallets associated with the Houthis demonstrate a growing awareness of the role of cryptocurrencies in global conflicts and terrorist financing. According to him, such a measure will significantly affect the further development of the industry.

Demchuk emphasized that compliance systems must now quickly adapt to new conditions, and efforts to track transactions will increase. In addition, decentralized platforms may face increased control and attention from regulators.

The expert added that what is happening is changing the legal regulation of the cryptocurrency industry, as digital assets are increasingly becoming involved in international security issues.

It is worth noting that the Russian crypto exchange Garantex was sanctioned and was forced to cease operations in early March 2025.
