The Secret Service in New York has blocked the NFT-UNI.com website, which was used by scammers to extort funds from gullible investors. The main method is to build long-term trusting relationships with victims, often elderly people. Under the pretext of a profitable investment opportunity, the attackers persuaded them to invest in cryptocurrency through a supposedly legal application.

After the money was deposited into the account, the scammers immediately stopped contacting. One of the victims, a resident of Warren County, transferred more than $172,000 to the platform, believing that the project was official. After receiving the deposit, the attackers divided the amount into parts and transferred it to several bank accounts to cover their tracks.

The total damage from NFT-UNI.com is estimated at $4.5 million. All this time, the scammers passed off their application as a legitimate investment product, actively manipulating the trust of their victims.

The NFT-UNI.com website was disabled, and the domain was seized by law enforcement agencies. This is not the first such case: in May 2024, the Secret Service also liquidated the OKEX-NFT.net project, which operated according to a similar scheme - collecting funds under the guise of cryptocurrency investments and then disappearing with the money.

The increase in the number of such incidents has raised concerns among New York State legislators. In March 2025, it was proposed to toughen penalties for crypto asset fraud. If the law is passed, violators will face a fine of up to $5 million and up to 20 years in prison.

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities strongly advise citizens to exercise caution and check the authenticity of investment platforms before transferring funds.
