The analytics company PeckShield reported the receipt of 90 million fake Grok tokens in a cryptocurrency wallet allegedly belonging to Binance founder Changpeng Zhao. Experts suggest that these assets are of fraudulent origin.

In their opinion, Grok tokens have nothing to do with the artificial intelligence of the same name from xAI, founded by Elon Musk. The PeckShield report emphasizes that a multi-sending tool was used to send them, allowing assets to be sent to multiple addresses at once — a typical scammer tactic.

According to the Bubblemaps platform, the first such fake tokens appeared back in 2023. At that time, unknown individuals issued a token in the ERC-20 standard, which fell in price by more than 90% after the developer sold only 0.5% of its total volume. This provoked a massive sell-off and a loss of confidence in the asset.

On April 14, 2025, cybersecurity expert Denis Thomas reported on a fraudulent scheme he had discovered, where attackers distributed a video with a fake Elon Musk broadcast. The video allegedly offered a free distribution of cryptocurrency worth $20,000, which also indicates another attempt to attract gullible users under the guise of the famous entrepreneur's name.

In addition, the Coinspeedrun scam detector reported the launch of new meme tokens, also exploiting Musk's name, but already on the BNB Chain network. This continues the trend of creating and distributing fake assets disguised as real projects.

Notably, in March, the Grok chatbot itself became involved in a curious situation: in response to a question from ForkLog, it denied any involvement in promoting the meme coin of the same name, despite the previous advertising linking it to this token.

The incident with Changpeng Zhao highlights how sophisticated cryptocurrency fraud schemes are becoming, and reminds us of the need to carefully check information and sources before interacting with new digital assets.
