The American company Lebul has acquired exclusive rights to create a media franchise dedicated to James Howells, a UK resident who lost access to his bitcoin wallet in 2013 after accidentally throwing the hard drive with the keys in the trash.

The story of almost a dozen years of his attempts to return what was lost will become the basis for a large-scale multimedia project. It includes a documentary series, a podcast, and materials for social networks. The project is called The Buried Bitcoin: The Real-Life Treasure Hunt of James Howells.

“We view this story as a full-fledged technological thriller based on real events. Almost a billion dollars is not just a plot, it is a real drama,” shared Rhys Van Allen, a representative of Lebul.

The press release states that the project has already attracted interest from international investors, well-known representatives of the crypto industry and streaming services, which indicates its high potential in the global market.

Recall that in 2013, James Howells mistakenly threw away a hard drive containing private keys to a wallet with 7,500 BTC. The device ended up at a municipal solid waste landfill, and since then the man has been trying to convince local authorities to allow him to organize a search operation.

Among his proposals were innovative approaches - from using X-ray technology to using specialized robots from Boston Dynamics. However, all these ideas faced legal and environmental obstacles from city officials.

Despite the enormous effort and time spent, experts believe that the chances of finding the drive and recovering data from it are extremely small. Nevertheless, the confrontation between the desperate owner of the cryptocurrency and the bureaucratic system became so exciting that they decided to transfer it to the screen.

Thus, the story of one of the world's most expensive "lost files" will turn into a fascinating series that combines elements of drama, technology and a real treasure hunt.
