The police were able to arrest the kidnappers, and the incident prevented possible serious consequences.
On May 1, 2025, in the center of Paris, four men in ski masks forced the victim into a car. The kidnappers demanded between €5 and €7 million from his family for his release. During the kidnapping, the man lost one of his fingers, indicating a threat to his life and health. A source close to the investigation said that if the police had not intervened in time, other bodily injuries could have occurred.
The police quickly searched the house and were able to identify the location of the kidnapped man. A few days later, on Saturday, four men, all in their 20s, were arrested in the Essonne area near Paris. The driver, who was also involved in the crime, was later arrested.
The victim's wife said that her husband and son had previously been threatened in connection with their cryptocurrency activities. They own a crypto marketing firm in Malta. This is not the first such incident, as crypto billionaire David Balland, co-founder of Ledger, was kidnapped in January this year, also having his finger cut off, and a ransom demanded. Balland was released the next day, and his girlfriend was found in the trunk of a car in Essonne.
The police are continuing their investigation, but have not yet released the identities of the detainees or the victims. The case once again raises security concerns for people working in the cryptocurrency industry and the importance of taking extra precautions in the face of increasing threats and violence.
