The Kenyan High Court has ruled that the collection of biometric information violates privacy rights. Judge Aburilee Roseline ruled that the project must delete all such data within seven days, with the process to be overseen by the Data Protection Commissioner. The court also barred the project from continuing to collect biometrics in Kenya.

The lawsuit was filed by human rights organizations such as the Katiba Institute and the International Court of Justice (ICJ). The ICJ said that even in the digital age, individuals’ privacy rights remain vital and sacrosanct.

It is important to note that World’s biometric data collection activities have attracted the attention of authorities in various countries, including the UK, Germany, Argentina, Colombia, Singapore, and, of course, Kenya.
