The Mobius Token project was subjected to a devastating cyberattack, during which assets worth $2.15 million were stolen. The incident occurred on May 11, 2025, and was promptly recorded by specialists from Cyvers Alerts.

According to analysts, the attacker began acting literally two minutes after loading the malicious smart contract. The attack was carried out extremely quickly: funds from one of the Mobius Token team wallets were withdrawn using a chain of transactions. A total of 28.5 million MBU were stolen, which the hacker then exchanged for USDT.

“Our system recorded the launch of a suspicious contract just two minutes before the attack. It turned out to be specially created to attack Mobius Token,” Cyvers analysts reported.

The criminal used the Tornado Cash service to hide his tracks and launder funds. According to experts, the attack is critical due to the unique structure of the malicious code and the non-standard behavior of the smart contracts involved in the hack.

Despite the scale of the incident, the Mobius Token team has so far refrained from public comments. An official statement from the developers has not been received at the time of publication.

Hacker activity in the crypto space remains high. In April 2025 alone, according to PeckShield, 18 major attacks were recorded with a total loss of $357.1 million. However, in some cases, project teams were able to recover some of the lost funds - for example, zkSync, KiloEx and Term Labs joined forces and recovered about $14.4 million.

Earlier, analyst ZachXBT reported large-scale thefts of funds from user accounts on Coinbase - the total amount of damage was about $45 million.
