Judge Maria Servini has ordered Argentine banks to provide full bank statements of the country's president, Javier Miley, in connection with an ongoing civil lawsuit over the promotion of the LIBRA meme coin, which has been embroiled in a major scandal.

The request also covers the bank details of his sister, Karina Miley, who is suspected of having ties to entrepreneurs involved in the token's launch. Neither Javier nor Karina showed up for the hearing or sent lawyers, heightening suspicions against them.

LIBRA appeared on the crypto market on February 14, when Miley published a link to the site and the address of the smart contract on his account on X. Initially, the token reached an impressive capitalization of $4.56 billion, but soon its price fell by 94%. After this collapse, the president tried to distance himself from the project, claiming that he was not aware of the details and had nothing to do with the technical side.

Despite his statements, opposition forces in the country accused Miley of complicity and began calling for the start of impeachment proceedings. Argentina's chief prosecutor Eduardo Taiano demanded that assets related to LIBRA worth about $100 million be frozen, as well as the restoration of deleted digital traces, including the president's publications.

The country's parliament also did not stand aside: in April, it officially sanctioned an investigation into the actions of officials involved in the promotion of the token.

As part of the criminal case, the court froze the accounts and property of three people involved in the investigation: Tech Forum Argentina founder Mauricio Novelli, former adviser to the securities regulator Sergio Morales, and popular blogger Manuel Terrones Godoy.

The investigation is also examining video footage showing Novelli's mother and sister emptying bank safes on February 17, just a few days after the president actively promoted the token. Notably, the safes had been rented shortly before that.

It is also reported that the US Department of Justice has also launched its own investigation into the role of the Argentine president in promoting the LIBRA token.
