The International Football Federation (FIFA) has officially announced the transition to its own blockchain, which will be based on the Avalanche network and will support compatibility with the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM).

Previously, the digital NFT collection under the FIFA Collect brand was hosted on the Algorand and Polygon blockchains, but now it is completely migrating to the new ecosystem. As FIFA Collect CEO Francesco Abbate explained, this decision is due to the need to modernize the infrastructure of FIFA digital assets. Among the key advantages of Avalanche, he highlighted high throughput, improved scalability and a higher level of data protection.

Abbate also emphasized that the integration with Avalanche will open up wider opportunities for users: it will become easier to connect crypto wallets and implement additional functions within the platform. It is expected that this technological base will become a solid foundation for the future development of FIFA digital products.

Once the migration is complete, all support for older blockchains such as Algorand and Polygon will be discontinued. While the exact launch date of the new blockchain has not yet been disclosed, it is known that the organization is already actively working on its implementation.

FIFA first announced plans to launch its own blockchain in April 2025, noting that it would be fully compatible with the EVM, meaning that developers will be able to easily migrate and adapt existing applications from other ecosystems.

In addition, back in March of this year, the organization's president Gianni Infantino spoke about the possible development of its own FIFA token. According to him, such a move will allow the federation to establish a closer connection with millions of fans around the world, creating new channels for audience engagement in the digital environment.

Thus, FIFA is taking a serious step towards independent management of its digital assets, striving to create a more reliable and flexible technological platform that meets the requirements of the future.
