According to Arkham Intelligence, Tesla currently holds 11,900 Bitcoin, worth over $1.25 billion. The data confirms that the automaker continues to be one of the largest institutional holders of the cryptocurrency.

The company initially entered the cryptocurrency market in early 2021. In February of that year, Tesla disclosed in a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission that it had acquired 43,200 BTC worth about $1.5 billion. This was one of the most high-profile moves by a public company to date in support of cryptocurrency.

Tesla then briefly began accepting Bitcoin as payment for its electric vehicles. However, the company abandoned this practice in May 2021. According to Elon Musk, the decision was made due to the environmental risks associated with the high consumption of fossil fuel-based energy required for mining. Musk emphasized at the time that while the cryptocurrency has significant potential, its use should not harm the environment.

Subsequently, in the second quarter of 2022, Tesla sold about 75% of its Bitcoin reserves, raising about $936 million. After this sale, the company had about 9,720 BTC left.

However, over time, Tesla returned to accumulating digital assets. According to the latest information, its Bitcoin portfolio has increased by almost 2,200 coins to 11,900 BTC. At the current exchange rate, these assets are worth more than $1.25 billion.

This move may indicate the company's long-term confidence in digital currencies, despite market volatility and periodic changes in strategy. Tesla remains one of the few public companies actively working with cryptocurrency at an institutional level.
