MetaMask, one of the most popular Web3 wallets, has announced that it has added support for the Solana network to its browser extension. This marks a major step towards expanding the platform’s capabilities beyond the EVM ecosystem.

The MetaMask mobile app will also receive Solana support, but a little later — a release is expected in the coming weeks. The developers confirmed that Solana will be the first of a number of non-EVM networks to be integrated in the future, thus demonstrating a commitment to versatility and coverage of different blockchain environments.

The active development of MetaMask’s functionality is associated with the growth of the number of users — the wallet has already exceeded the 100 million account mark. This makes it one of the largest players in the field of decentralized applications and cryptocurrency services.

In addition to Solana, MetaMask plans to implement Bitcoin support in the coming months. This was announced back in February, and full integration is planned for Q3 2025. This step will allow users to manage Bitcoin transactions directly through the wallet interface, without the need for third-party services.

To improve the convenience and flexibility of working with various assets, the MetaMask team is also working on the implementation of the ERC-5792 standard. This standard provides the ability to combine several operations into one package, which greatly simplifies complex transactions. In addition, work continues on the implementation of account abstraction, which will allow users to more flexibly manage their crypto assets.

Thus, MetaMask continues to move towards a more inclusive and technologically advanced platform, providing access to a wide range of blockchains and improving the user experience.
