On June 5, 2025, one of the Bitcoin network participants managed to mine block #899,826, receiving a reward of 3.151 BTC for this, which at the exchange rate was about $330,386. Surprisingly, this operation was not performed by a large mining center, but by a solo miner connected to the CKpool pool.
According to information from the mempool.space resource, the block included 3680 transactions. The average commission for each was about $0.29, and the median fee reached about 2 sat / vB. Despite the relatively low commissions, the total earnings were impressive due to the main reward for the block.
Con Kolivas, the CKpool administrator, suggested that the user used a rented hashrate. He noted that immediately before the block was mined, the performance increased sharply to 259 PH/s, although the same account had previously demonstrated much more modest indicators. At the same time, only one worker was connected to the pool, which makes the success even more unexpected.
Interestingly, this is already the 300th block mined by a solo miner through CKpool, which emphasizes the certain effectiveness of this pool for enthusiasts acting alone. However, the chances of such luck are extremely small: with the total computing power of the entire network at 796 EH/s, the probability that one miner will mine a block was only 0.03% - this is about 1 chance in 3050.
Such cases are not isolated. Thus, on March 10, another solo miner managed to mine block #887,212, receiving about $250,000 for it. At the same time, he used equipment worth only $299, which makes his success especially remarkable.
It is worth adding that on May 31, the difficulty of Bitcoin mining again updated the record, reaching 126.98 T. This makes such cases of successful block mining by individuals even more rare and surprising against the backdrop of growing technical requirements.
