Tether Investments, which is affiliated with the issuer of the USDT stablecoin, has invested $89.2 million in Canadian gold mining company Elemental Altus Royalties. As part of a private deal with La Mancha Investments, Tether received a 31.9% stake in the Canadian firm, equivalent to 78.4 million common shares.

At the same time, Tether signed an agreement with AlphaStream Limited and its subsidiary Alpha 1 SPV Limited, providing an option to purchase an additional block of 34.4 million shares. However, the company will not be able to exercise the purchase option until October 29, 2025, without permission from Elemental.

The investment is in line with Tether’s long-term strategy to increase its share of assets with physical backing, particularly gold and bitcoin. According to the company's CEO Paolo Ardoino, digital infrastructure requires a foundation of "solid" and time-tested assets, which makes such investments a logical step in development.

The deal gives Tether access to the profitable gold mining sector without having to take on operational risks. In addition, the company does not rule out the possibility of strengthening interaction with the management of Elemental Altus Royalties, including participation in strategic decisions.

It is worth noting that in recent months, Tether has been actively expanding its scope of activities. In addition to investing in gold, it is involved in Bitcoin mining and finances crypto projects, including initiatives focused on digital gold and decentralized finance.

Earlier, Paolo Ardoino questioned the fairness of the market valuation of Tether, calling the amount of $515 billion understated. The company, together with Bitfinex, also announced support for the Stable project, which operates on the basis of USDT and is focused on the development of blockchain infrastructure.

Thus, the latest investment in Elemental Altus Royalties highlights Tether’s strategic intent to diversify assets and strengthen its position in real-world value by integrating traditional financial instruments into the digital economy.
