In the Levashinsky district, employees of the Dagenergo branch, together with the police and representatives of the security department, conducted a raid and found 18 mining rigs in a private home. The inspection showed that the equipment used electricity without metering. According to experts, the costs amounted to 136,000 kWh, which caused damage to the energy company in the amount of about 822,000 rubles.
During another inspection, eight more cryptocurrency mining devices were found in a private home. Power engineers recorded an illegal connection, which led to an overconsumption of 19,000 kWh. The damage in this case was estimated at 114,000 rubles.
According to Rosseti, the highest level of losses from illegal mining was recorded in the North Caucasus last year — over 600 million rubles. This is almost half of the total damage incurred by the entire group of companies in the country due to illegal connections — the total amount of losses for 2024 was about 1.3 billion rubles.
Illegal crypto farms also continue to be identified in other regions. Thus, earlier the Ministry of Internal Affairs reported the cessation of the activities of a large underground mining facility in St. Petersburg. It was located in a hangar on Mitrofanevskoye Highway in the industrial zone of the Moskovsky District.
The fight against illegal mining in Russia is becoming an increasingly important priority for energy companies and law enforcement agencies. Due to the growing popularity of cryptocurrency mining and high profitability, many owners connect equipment bypassing meters, which leads to significant losses for power grids.
Rosseti emphasizes that such actions cause serious financial damage to the infrastructure and create a risk of network overload. To counter such schemes, a number of regions are stepping up inspections and conducting joint raids with the police.
Experts predict that the number of such violations may grow, given the interest in cryptocurrencies and the lack of clear regulation of mining at the federal level. In this regard, the authorities are considering the possibility of tightening controls and introducing additional measures to legalize the activities of miners.
Experts urge citizens not to engage in illegal connections and warn of fines and possible criminal liability for theft of electricity. Energy companies remind that honest payment for resources is the key to the stable operation of the entire power supply system.
